New Innovation Strategy Helps Invent Green Gadgets

In this beginning of the 21th century, we are becoming more and more aware of the importance to preserve our environment. Our planet as been here for millions of years, but we’ve only been there for a couple thousands. If we want to survive as a race, we have to take care of our surroundings. By the last one hundred years, some very great technologies have been invented. Some technologies we’ve invented are harming the environment very badly. A good innovation strategy could help us improve new technologies without doing any harm to our planet. Tons of scientists around the world are thinking hard to create new gadgets using solar power, plants, wind power…

According to my observations, new electronic gadgets are rarely green. We all know that in the near future, there will be more and more cell phones, laptops, pdas, cars, etc. Thats why we need to innovate to create new solutions. The term innovation refers to a new way of doing something. We don’t have to reinvent everything here. We just have to think better when we are creating a product or buying a product. In our economy, what we decide to buy can change everything. If everyone would start buying green gadgets tomorrow, those would become more affortable and there would be more green gadgets on the market in a flick of switch. In my opinion, we need an innovation strategy that will help us change the way we are thinking about new technology.
Here is a short list of new green gadgets that will help improve our situation:

  • Universal solar battery charger: this little device let you charge your small electronics with the built in solar panel. If it sunny and all your devices are already charged, it can collet energy from the sun and holds it in the internal battery for later use…
  • Green roofs: more and more cities are loosing there parks and their green spots to build skyscrapers. This new idea is really great: by covering your roof with plants, you help our planet’s health and it eliminates the need for air conditioning
  • Home wind turbine: very recently, we’ve seen more and more houses installing this piece of equipment. They are still expensive, but if you stay in a windy environment, it could worth the deal.

But, that’s just the beginning. If we really want to makes things change in the next century, we have to do this as a team. New technology like Internet, teleconferencing, blogs and forums can help us work together by exchanging ideas. Our world as never been so connected than today and we have to take advantage of this situation. That’s part of our innovation strategy. The second part of this strategy is making the decision to become greener together. Most of us would rather make more money with a new gadget than creating a greener gadget and making a little less money. Electricity providers, for example, don’t want us to use solar power or wind power, they want us to buy their electricity. When we will decide to turn our back to these companies and to pay a little bit more for green gadgets, a new world will be born.
The green gadgets are just one part of the innovation strategy I am talking about here. But, I think it is a very good start. Children of the new generation are craving for new gadgets. Maybe if they have more green gadgets, they would be inspired to create and buy more green technologies. After all, children are our future…

We’re talking about 101, not 401, so this is entry level logic we’re dealing with, and if you don’t have it yet, you have to get on board quick because there’s a huge amount at stake!

There is categorically no hype in saying there’s a lot at stake here because everyone with a set of eyes and ears understands this already. It is a well recognized fact that our planet could very well be in trouble. Big trouble! The ice caps are melting, drought is killing individuals and the future may well be pretty bleak.

Here are a few observations that lay it out.

1 If you pause and consider that each time you flip a light switch on in your home, you’re conceivably damaging the planet, it’s not a guilt trip, it’s just a fact. I mean we’re all part of it right?

2 Most electricity in the world comes from power stations that burn coal. Coal is a fossil fuel, and it’s also dirty. VERY dirty! When the power plants burn it, they’re belching pollutants into our environment and contributing to global warming.

3 I know I didn’t send a memo to the power company and tell them to destroy the Earth, and neither did you, but we are, no question, adding to the dilemma when we use up lots of electricity.

4 You have to drive don’t you? If driving your car does the environment harm, I suppose you can tell your boss to keep paying you for not coming into work, so you can save the Earth. Correct? Try that and see what it gets you! The fact is, we’re all part of the dilemma, whether we like it or not.

5 People need to fly to get places, right? We can’t just ground all of our air planes, and, even if we could, could YOU demand that and have anybody pay attention? Most likely not.

Ok, you get the sketch, and its precisely this sort of idea that makes a lot of people feel helpless and think there’s very little they can do to help the environment. Nothing can be further from the fact!

Even if there’s question about the science of it, do we actually intend to take the gamble of not taking action? So what can you do to cause a difference as just yourself? The fact is you CAN cause a difference and you are capable of making a large difference!

Here’s the wonderful news… Each single occasion you walk outside your front door, you’re surrounded by free, abundant, clean energy. The key is harnessing free wind power and solar power, which there is a never ending supply of, and it’s a powerful force!

A Better Green Home With Alternative Wind Energy Products

The cost wind energy differential is relatively minor these days, since technology and innovation have driven down prices by 90% in the past two decades. A modern residential wind turbine can lower electric bills by 50 to 90% in most parts of the country.

Some homes in the scorching hot south that run 100% off sources wind energy provides have monthly bills of $8 to $15 for nine months of the year, not including the summer months. Homes in the north with year-round modest temperatures will see year-round low energy bills.

Another excellent reason to invest in plant wind power is that the cost wind energy charges have decreased substantially in just 20 years and are likely to diminish even more in the years to come.

Wind speed is one factor for cost wind energy figures. For instance, one 51 mega-watt wind farm has wind speeds of 7.15 miles per hour blowing through the wind power small blades at a cost of 6 cents per kilowatt hour.

At a comparable farm with wind speeds of 9.32 miles per hour, the cost is only 26 cents per kilowatt hour. Also, the size of the local wind farm affects the price. For instance, the average 3 mega-watt farm delivers electricity at 59 cents per kilowatt hour, whereas a 51 mega-watt farm delivers it at just 36 cents per kilowatt hour, at a 40% decrease.

A secondary factor for alternative wind energy estimates is the advances in technology. Since the eighties, generators wind power manufacturers have realized that the taller a turbine tower is, the better the output, as wind speeds increase with distance from the ground.

Also, just by increasing the rotor diameter from 10 meters to 50 meters, there was a 55% increase in productivity. A modern day 1.65 mega-watt turbine can generate 120 times the output of the older 25 kilo-watt turbines from the eighties, for example.

Cost wind energy products can range from a couple hundred dollars to up to $22,000, depending on your contractor or set-up. These investments are built to last at least 20 years, manufacturers say.

However, the cheapest sources wind energy comes from local utility programs that have already hooked industrial alternative wind energy turbines into the electric grid. In a study by Wiser and Kahn, it was discovered that private ownership could buy electricity at 6.56 cents per kilo-watt hour, whereas public utility ownership using internal financing could reach as low as 2.88 cents per kilo-watt hour.

As the system is expanded nationally, more and more Americans will have access to renewable energy resources, which will not only save us money in the short-term, but will also save our planet in the long-term.

Meet T. Boone Pickens, an unlikely spokesman for plant wind power. After making his billion-dollar fortune as an oil baron, T. Boone Pickens has had a change of heart and now actively advocates investing in resources renewable energy to take our energy consumption to the next level.

He’s currently investing hundreds of millions on a wind farm in Texas and his hedge fund, BP Capital, is aggressively expanding into the turbine wind energy market as well. He’s proposed a plan to wean America off oil over the next decade. However, there are both wind power pros and cons to consider before moving forward.

In looking at the wind energy facts, let’s first look at the benefits of using turbine wind energy. First off, wind turbines are a clean, domestic source of energy. The wind will never stop blowing, thereby providing an endless source of power if we harness it correctly, with the appropriate back-up generators.

This free source of energy won’t cause green house gases, create radioactive waste or emit pollutants either. So far our use of wind energy alternative has offset carbon dioxide emission by 2.5 billion pounds and reduced other pollutants by 15 million pounds. Compared to solar supply, geothermal and biomass energy, wind energy is relatively cheap. The Department of Energy predicts that alternative wind energy will cost as low as 4 to 6 cents per kilowatt hour in the coming years.

Wind power pros and cons also look at the sustainability of our planet. Another one of the obvious advantages of wind purchase power is that it does not consume any non-renewable resources or fossil fuels. Many of our resources come from coal, natural gas or oil and harm the environment in pursuit of these energy sources.

Rainforests are destroyed, mountains are dynamited, rivers are polluted and wildlife is marginalized. Comparatively, the construction and installation of these turbines creates limited environmental impact.

Even though the towers are tall, the land beneath them can still be used for farming, grazing, landscaping and other functions. Now we must look toward wind, solar and geothermal to remain competitive in the global marketplace.

While it may seem like there are ample positive reasons to go forth with a wind energy alternative, there are both wind power pros and cons in this debate. Critics claim that powering the country off turbine wind energy is simply not feasible.

They point out that areas like the U.S. gulf coast have such heavy hurricane winds that the damage to the turbines would be substantial. Additionally, midwest lightning storms will wreak havoc on wind turbine systems and cold areas will introduce the problem of dangerous ice build-up on the wings.

In some Canadian studies, people living near windmill farms complained of suffering from abominable headaches, although this potential danger has not been clinically proven yet.

Renewable Energy, Alternative Energy, & Clean Energy

To most people, the differences between “alternative energy,” “renewable energy,” and “clean energy,” might not be obvious. But each term is unique and has its own individual meaning.

Alternative Energy

When we speak of alternative energy, we refer to sources of usable energy that can replace conventional energy sources (usually, without undesirable side effects). The term “alternative energy” is typically used to refer to sources of energy other than nuclear energy or fossil fuels.

Throughout the course of history, “alternative energy” has referred to different things. There was a time when Nuclear Energy was considered an alternative to conventional energy, and was thus called “alternative energy.” But times have changed.

These days, a form of “alternative energy” might also be renewable energy, or clean energy, or both. The terms are often interchangeable, but definitely not the same.

Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is any type of energy which comes from renewable natural resources, such as wind, rain, sunlight, geothermal heat, and tides. It is referred to as “renewable” because it doesn’t run out. You can always get more of it.

People have begun to turn to this type of energy due to the rising oil prices, and the prospect that we might one day deplete available sources of fossil fuels, as well as due to concerns about the adverse effects that our conventional energy sources have on the environment.

Among the different types of renewable energy, wind power is one which is growing in its use. The number of users who have some form of wind power installed has increased, with the current worldwide capacity being about 100 GW.

Clean Energy

“Clean energy” is simply any form of energy which is created with clean, harmless, and non-polluting methods.

Most renewable energy sources are also clean energy sources. But not all.

One such example is geothermal power. It may be a renewable energy source, but some geothermal energy processes can be harmful to the environment. Therefore, this is not always a clean energy. However there are also other forms of geothermal energy which are harmless and clean.

Clean energy makes the less impact on the environment than our current conventional energy sources do. It creates an insignificant amount of carbon dioxide, and its use can reduce the speed of global warming - or global pollution.

As you can see, alternative energy, renewable energy, and clean energy are very similar. But it is important to know that there are differences.

There are many steps which can be taken to help reduce greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. Some of these steps can be taken in your own home. Many clean energy solutions can can be easily installed, and some kits or DIY systems are quite affordable.

It is important to start making changes now; if we want to save our planet for our children, for the flora and fauna of the Earth, and for the future of mankind.

Carbon emissions, and other forms of pollution are not only created by heavy industrial factories. They are created by the common household as well. Energy efficiency has become an important aspect of our lives. If we start to change our habits on an individual level, others will begin to follow our example, and a real change can occur world-wide.

Clean alternative energy systems for the home can also save one a lot of money on electricity in the long-run, but it can be expensive to have the systems installed by a commercial company. It’s quite possible to build your own wind or solar power system at home, however, for a fraction of the cost. And advanced technical knowledge or skills are not a requirement.
