Renewable Energy, Alternative Energy, & Clean Energy

To most people, the differences between “alternative energy,” “renewable energy,” and “clean energy,” might not be obvious. But each term is unique and has its own individual meaning.

Alternative Energy

When we speak of alternative energy, we refer to sources of usable energy that can replace conventional energy sources (usually, without undesirable side effects). The term “alternative energy” is typically used to refer to sources of energy other than nuclear energy or fossil fuels.

Throughout the course of history, “alternative energy” has referred to different things. There was a time when Nuclear Energy was considered an alternative to conventional energy, and was thus called “alternative energy.” But times have changed.

These days, a form of “alternative energy” might also be renewable energy, or clean energy, or both. The terms are often interchangeable, but definitely not the same.

Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is any type of energy which comes from renewable natural resources, such as wind, rain, sunlight, geothermal heat, and tides. It is referred to as “renewable” because it doesn’t run out. You can always get more of it.

People have begun to turn to this type of energy due to the rising oil prices, and the prospect that we might one day deplete available sources of fossil fuels, as well as due to concerns about the adverse effects that our conventional energy sources have on the environment.

Among the different types of renewable energy, wind power is one which is growing in its use. The number of users who have some form of wind power installed has increased, with the current worldwide capacity being about 100 GW.

Clean Energy

As you can see, alternative energy, renewable energy, and clean energy are very similar. But it is important to know that there are differences.

There are many steps which can be taken to help reduce greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. Some of these steps can be taken in your own home. Many clean energy solutions can can be easily installed, and some kits or DIY systems are quite affordable.

It is important to start making changes now; if we want to save our planet for our children, for the flora and fauna of the Earth, and for the future of mankind.

Carbon emissions, and other forms of pollution are not only created by heavy industrial factories. They are created by the common household as well. If we start to change our habits on an individual level, others will begin to follow our example, and a real change can occur world-wide.

How Wind Energy Can Deliver Electricity to your Home

Wind power has been in use for hundreds of years. From windmills to sailboats, the energy that is contained in wind has long been a power source. With the recent trend toward finding renewable energy sources wind power has become an important option for powering homes and even entire towns.

Inter-tied wind turbine power and off grid turbine power are both renewable energy sources for powering homes. This same power can be used for towns and cities but it takes more than one wind powered turbine to produce that amount of energy.

Large masses of utility size wind turbines are set up in what is known as a wind farm. Wind farms are usually located in areas where winds are at least 14 mph. Wind farms, once installed create an inflation proof, free form of energy.

These utility sized wind turbines send their energy to nearby generator stations where it will be distributed throughout the area. This power created by these wind farms is a constantly renewable source of energy, particularly in windy areas.

Wind turbines are able to produce energy for homes and with the use of wind farms on a larger scale for towns. As utility bills climb to unseen levels it is unsurprising that many people are starting to install water meters to their homes. This is because the old system of having a categorised water bill has become increasingly more expensive as water companies try to increase their revenue. The move towards water meters is not just a result of a homeowner’s pursuit of cheaper bills. The government in the last twelve months has made it law that all new builds must be built with water meters as standard. These new regulations are supposed to ensure that those buying new homes have a greater respect for the environmental effects of being wasteful with water, as well the financial costs of wasting this precious resource.
